Soccer Game

The soccer game was awesome yesterday! I can officially say I've been to a World Cup soccer game. The reason the game was so big and busy was because it was a qualifier game for the World Cup in like 3 years.. which doesn't make any sense to me but oh well it was fun to go to. It was a perfect day for the game.. probably 70 degrees and sun the whole time. We left school early and went to get some jerseys by the stadium for 5 bucks. Everywhere around the stadium was packed! Our tickets were for a certain section but general admission and from the looks of it, we weren't going to find a seat. People were already sitting in the walkways but we went down to like 15 rows up and some people said they had some seats in front of them so we took them. It was really nice of them and lucky for us and they were pretty cool. We were probably 10 rows up and about even with the goalie box.. so they were pretty good seats. The atmosphere there is crazy all the time. The Peru people were jumping around yelling stuff and then the rest of the stadium would jump around and yell stuff back... I didn't understand most of it but just tried to make it sound like what everyone else was saying. The Peru fans had this huge cannon.. at least thats what it sounded like.. that they would light off sometimes. It was like you see soccer on TV.. horns, whistles, and yelling the whole time... it was crazy. Also like you see on TV, soccer players are complete wimps. They always go down and fake something to try to get a foul and then they complain about it to the ref. Probably 3 or 4 different times a player would go down.. the golf cart with a stretcher on the back would come out followed by 4 medics running alongside it that were dressed in helmets, masks, gloves, and some silver outfit.. they looked like robots that would be in a war zone or something..  not sure why they needed it because no one was ever really hurt. They would put the guy on the stetcher, cart him off and then a minute later he was up on the sideline running around and then back into the game. But it was fun to yell at the Peru players when they were down.. I'm guessing what the crowd was saying wasnt really that nice but it was fun to yell it. And when they score the place goes even more nuts! Beer gets thrown from all angles.. we were pretty wet because they scored twice, people throw everything.. toliet paper, cups, paper, pretty much anything and usually try to get it on the field but rarely do. People jump and yell louder than before and everyone high fives everyone.. the old guy in front of me was so jacked up I thought he'd have a heart attack or tackle me because he loved it when they scored and traveled from NJ to watch the game. Ecuador scored twice in the second half and won 2-0 so everyone was happy... except the Peru people. They started throwing bottles at the Ecuador fans.. we weren't by them so we just watched.. and then Ecuador people would throw stuff back.. cops all the sudden came from everywhere and ran up and around the Peru section but not fights or anything to crazy happened. Then this guy tried to climb a 25 foot fence off to the side of us to get on the field and it was inevitable that he was going to fall because he was obviously pretty drunk. He made it to the top but couldn't get over it and fell back down onto concrete. It was kinda freaky to watch because everyone knew he was going to fall and everyone just watched. Once he fell half the cops, medics, and camera people went running back over to him.. he was moving his hand when he got on the stretcher but I think pretty much everything else was broken. Once we made it out we walked for like an hour because we kinda got lost and it was impossible to get a taxi but we eventually made it to Mariscal and got something to eat. It was a really cool experience and something I'll probably never do again. Only Meghan took her camera because I didn't want mine to get stolen so once she sends me the pictures I'll post them.
Tomorrow I take over one of the chemistry classes but probably not the rest until Monday. This Saturday David's (the middle brother) daughter Rafiella is getting baptized in the church down the road. Afterwards everyone is coming back here and having a party for it. I guess there getting food catered in and most of the family will be here so that should be fun.. I'll take some pictures and post them afterwards hopefully. Not sure what else is going on this weekend.

  1. The game event sounds like it was absolutely crazy...even more crazy than I get watching a Michigan State football game (haha)! Glad to hear that you survived and had fun! Have a great rest of your week!
